Man Utd could sign five PSG players as Qatar owners look to ‘do away with £194m in wages’
Reportedly, Paris Saint-Germain is trying to reduce their wage bill by up to 30% and this may lead Manchester United to consider acquiring five of their players during the upcoming summer transfer window. This would allow PSG to save a significant amount of money on annual wages.
The Athletic reported that Paris Saint-Germain spent £645 million on wages in 2022 for high-profile players such as Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, and Lionel Messi.
However, according to The Times, the club is considering letting go of some of their star players in order to reduce costs. Despite their current success, with a comfortable eight-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 following a spectacular performance by Mbappe and Messi in a 3-0 victory against Marseille, PSG may face losing key players.
SportsDias has identified five players that Manchester United may consider targeting in the upcoming summer transfer window, which would help PSG cut down on their wage bill.
Gianluigi Donnarumma
With uncertainty surrounding David De Gea’s future at United, the club may look to acquire a goalkeeper during the summer transfer window. While negotiations for a new contract with De Gea are ongoing, concerns about his ability on the ball have arisen.
As a potential solution, Gianluigi Donnarumma could be considered. Donnarumma has displaced Keylor Navas, who has since gone on loan to Nottingham Forest. However, selling Donnarumma could be a cost-cutting measure, and United could consider bringing Navas back.
Despite being 35 years old, Navas has proven to be a top goalkeeper in the Premier League. If Donnarumma were to leave, United’s goalkeeping woes could be solved for a decade, as the Italian is only 24 years old.
Kylian Mbappe
For anyone associated with Manchester United, signing Mbappe would be a dream come true as he has repeatedly demonstrated why he is widely regarded as the world’s best player.
However, PSG currently boasts football’s highest-ever wage bill of £643m per year in 2022, and to reduce this figure by 30%, one of their star trio of Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe may have to depart.
While Messi is currently negotiating a new contract and Neymar may be available for the right price, United would prefer to acquire Mbappe for Old Trafford.
This is because the Brazilian may not be a good fit with Bruno Fernandes, who is the Red Devils’ primary playmaker. In contrast, Mbappe has previously expressed a desire to leave PSG and would be the perfect striker to build the team around, alongside Fernandes and Marcus Rashford.
Achraf Hakimi
It is unlikely that PSG’s talented right-back, Achraf Hakimi, will leave the club this summer. This is because he is considered one of the world’s best players in his position and is one of the team’s few stars who is also on an affordable salary.
Additionally, his close relationship with Mbappe would work in his favor if the forward decides to remain at the club despite his links to Real Madrid.
In Hakimi’s recent absence due to injury, Galtier has started Nordi Mukiele at right-back, and he has performed well in that position.
However, Manchester United may still be in the market for a full-back during the summer transfer window, as neither Diogo Dalot nor Aaron Wan-Bissaka has fully secured the role under Erik ten Hag’s management.
If Hakimi were to become available, he would likely be the top right-back on the market and United may be willing to spend a significant amount of money to secure his services.
Renato Sanches
Renato Sanches, who had an unsuccessful spell at Swansea City, could potentially strengthen Manchester United’s midfield, as manager Erik ten Hag is likely looking to add more players to the team.
The Portuguese international has only started three league matches for PSG since joining from Lille, where he played a key role under coach Galtier in winning the league title.
Given his disappointing performances since his £12.5m transfer, Sanches may be available for a reduced price, particularly if PSG fails to sign Marcel Sabitzer on a permanent basis.
Marco Verratti
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag may be interested in adding another playmaker to the team’s midfield, and PSG’s Marco Verratti could be an excellent option. Christian Eriksen’s presence in the defensive and midfield areas of the pitch provided United with an additional dimension, which allowed Bruno Fernandes to concentrate on creating chances.
Verratti has been with PSG for almost 11 years, and it is doubtful that he would be willing to leave the club. However, he is reportedly the fifth-highest earner at PSG, and selling him could significantly reduce the team’s wage bill. Therefore, if the opportunity arises, United may consider pursuing Verratti as a potential addition to their midfield.
