Man Utd confirms Premier League match has been postponed after Carabao Cup result
Manchester United has confirmed that the February 26 Premier League match against Brentford has been postponed following the club’s advancement to the Carabao Cup final.
The Red Devils held a commanding 3-0 advantage over Nottingham Forest after the first leg of their Carabao Cup semifinal. They secured their spot at Wembley with a 2-0 victory last night.
United will face Newcastle United in the final on February 26, the same day as their Premier League match against Brentford at Old Trafford. United’s aggregate victory was 5-0.
Consequently, the Bees game has been rescheduled for a later date. United’s continued participation in all competitions has created a scheduling conundrum for the Premier League.
Last month, they were forced to play the rescheduled Crystal Palace match on short notice and issued an apology.
However, the second rescheduled match against Leeds was confirmed in advance. United will host the Yorkshire squad on February 8, four days prior to the rematch at Elland Road.
If United defeats West Ham in the fifth round of the FA Cup, the Premier League may face additional postponement issues. This would mean that the March 19 match at Brighton & Hove Albion will be rescheduled.
Under Ten Hag, United have excelled in all competitions. The Dutch tactician has taken the Cup matches seriously, selecting strong starting lineups for the vast majority of his available matches.
The Red Devils have a chance to end a six-year trophy drought if they win the Carabao Cup, but the manager also has his sights set on winning the FA Cup and Europa League.
After a difficult 2021/22 season, United’s outlook is positively optimistic. Combining a top-four league finish with a championship would make this season a tremendous success for the club.
