Man Utd board decide January transfer budget as Manchester United coach to replace Steven Gerrard at Rangers
Manchester United’s owners are reportedly unwilling to provide funds to under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer during the January transfer window.
Despite spending heavily in the summer on Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Raphael Varane, United’s season has not gone as planned under Solskjaer.
The pressure on the Norwegian’s shoulders is increasing by the week, owing to a string of poor results, and a number of senior players are reportedly expecting their boss to be fired soon.
According to The Mirror, the Glazer family does not believe that the January transfer window will solve the club’s problems and will not provide funds to Solskjaer to improve the squad.
According to the report, Solskjaer does not believe he is in imminent danger of losing his job, but he recognizes that ‘D-Day’ is approaching as his team struggles to perform.
United have lost four of their last six Premier League games under Solskjaer and will face Watford following the international break.
Manchester United coach to replace Steven Gerrard at Rangers
Rangers have begun the search for a new manager after Steven Gerrard left to become Dean Smith’s successor at Aston Villa.
Former Rangers and Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam has suggested Manchester United midfielder and current first-team coach Michael Carrick as a surprise candidate for the role at the Ibrox Stadium.
“I’ll throw a name in the hat,” Adam said on BBC’s Sportsound podcast. “Michael Carrick has been at Man United, a big club, good coach. It was a gamble with Steven.
“Will they go down that same route? Will they go for an experienced name? There will only be three people that know.”
Carrick has been a member of the United backroom staff since he retired from football after 12 years with the club.
The former England international was hired as a coach under Jose Mourinho in order to keep his position after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived, and he is now part of the furniture at Old Trafford.
However, Sky Sports reports that the SPL club has already begun negotiations with former Arsenal and Barcelona defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst to become the next Rangers manager.
While Carrick appears unlikely to get the job, it’s an intriguing suggestion from Adam, and you’d think the 40-year-old will challenge himself as a coach outside of United at some point.
Being a manager, on the other hand, is a different ballgame, and Carrick will be up against it if he accepts the Rangers job because Celtic will not be idle forever.
Gerrard has surprised many by doing a fantastic job at Rangers and preventing Celtic from winning 10 SPL titles in a row, but he knows he will face a different beast in the Premier League.
We hope he slips, as he did against Chelsea earlier this season. Liverpool thought they had won the Premier League until Demba Ba jolted them awake.
