Man United player snubs international call-up to help club fight for league points

Charlie Savage, the midfielder for Manchester United, has stated that he will not be joining the Under-21s squad for Wales, and will instead remain with Forest Green Rovers.

Savage has been playing on loan for the League One team and recently scored his first senior goal for them.

He was the only player to score in Forest’s 3-1 loss to Bristol Rovers. Despite his good performance, he has declined the Welsh U-21 call-up.

Instead of joining Wales’ Under-21s squad, the 19-year-old Charlie Savage has decided to stay with Forest Green Rovers to assist them in their quest for points and to avoid being relegated. Forest Green is currently at the bottom of the table, and they are seven points behind Cambridge United.

Upon making the decision, Savage said via United club media, “I’ve been given permission to stay with Forest Green Rovers for the upcoming international break.

“It is always an honour to be called up for your country, wearing the national team shirt is one of the best and proudest experiences you can have in football.

“I’m really enjoying my time with Forest Green and want to give everything to help us fight for points during the next two weeks and then into the remainder of the season.”

Charlie Savage mentioned that his decision was not an easy one to make. He took a considerable amount of time to think and reflect before ultimately coming to a conclusion.

Savage explained that his choice was primarily driven by his desire to show appreciation for the trust that his manager, coaches, and teammates have in him. He wants to repay their faith by staying with Forest Green and helping them in their current situation.

The United man rounded off his statement by saying, “I want to thank the coaches and everyone at FA Wales for their understanding and I look forward to joining up with them again at the end of the season.”
