Man United mysterious bidder Thomas Zilliacus confirms he could turn his attentions to Liverpool takeover
Thomas Zilliacus, who was a secretive bidder for Manchester United, has acknowledged that he may focus on taking over Liverpool instead.
Thomas Zilliacus has expressed interest in purchasing Liverpool in the event that his bid to acquire Manchester United is unsuccessful.
The businessman, who hails from Helsinki, has a net worth that is believed to be lower than those of competing bidders Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, a Qatari businessman, and British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
Zilliacus recently announced that he submitted an offer to purchase Manchester United through XXI Century Capital, an investment firm owned by his holding company.
He intends to purchase 50% of the club while the remaining 50% would be acquired by fans who can buy a stake in the club and use an app to participate in decision-making.
Zilliacus stated that his offer is predicated on United’s current market value of “just under $3.9 billion” (£3.17 billion). The Glazer family is seeking six billion dollars to sell the club.
The Finn is presently trying to acquire the Red Devils, but he has acknowledged that he might turn his attention to Liverpool if his attempt to take over the club is unsuccessful. FSG was initially open to a complete acquisition of Anfield, but they have since clarified that they are solely looking for new investors.
“Look, we would definitely be exploring other options,” Zilliacus told journalist Ben Jacobs when asked if he could move for Liverpool instead. “And my brother-in-law would be very happy because his team is Liverpool.
“Yes, we would be looking at other opportunities and we have been looking at other opportunities earlier also. Definitely if this, for whatever reason is one where the sellers say “No, we are not interested in what you are offering. We want to go with somebody else,” then we have to look elsewhere.”
Prior to this, Zilliacus has served as the chairman of HJK Helsinki, a Finnish football club, and currently owns Jokerit, a six-time ice hockey championship team in Finland.
