Man United could land their own Lewandowski with late move for £95k-p/w “monster”

Despite the possibility that Cristiano Ronaldo could remain at  Manchester United beyond the end of the transfer window, the Old Trafford club will likely need to find a long-term replacement for the Portuguese superstar in the near future.

Amid the recent uncertainty surrounding the 37-year-old, manager Erik ten Hag has also been dealt a blow by the injury absence of fellow striker Anthony Martial.

This has left Manchester United in desperate need of a new striker, with recent rumors indicating that Napoli’s Victor Osimhen is a “priority transfer target” for the Premier League club due to his recent explosive play.

The 23-year-old “beast,” as characterized by journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, has scored 30 goals and supplied 10 assists in just 65 games for his current team, after contributing 24 goals in 38 games for his former club Lille.

The £95k-per-week striker also enjoyed a sensational loan spell with Belgian side RSC Charleroi during the 2018-19 season, hitting 20 goals in only 36 games after coming on loan from Wolfsburg.

The 6’1″ threat has shown himself in Italy, Belgium, and France throughout his career, albeit with only a brief impact in Germany, with a move to the considerably more competitive English league expected to follow.

According to FBref, he shares a number of aesthetic and statistical similarities with current Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski.

This is of particular relevance given that the Poland international was previously linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams.

This comparison is supported by the fact that both players rank highly among their contemporaries in Europe’s top five divisions in terms of non-penalty goals, with Osimhen rating in the top 5% and Lewandowski ranking in the top 1%, respectively.

Equally, the two guys are nearly identical in terms of shots on goal, with the latter man averaging 4.26 per 90 minutes and the Naples ace averaging 4.21 per 90 minutes; both are a powerful offensive danger.

It is also worth noting that the Nigerian-born phenom was rumored to be a possible replacement for the 34-year-old at his former club Bayern Munich, despite the fact that the senior figure only recently relocated to Catalonia.

With Lewandowski being a player of verified star status – he has scored a phenomenal 513 goals in just 679 career club games – it speaks well for United if they make a bid for Osimhen, his possible heir.
