Todd Boehly’s first transfer window at Chelsea was mainly successful, with the Blues contributing to the Premier League’s record-breaking spending binge.

Chelsea spent around £270 million on players such as Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, and Raheem Sterling.

However, the Blues were pipped to a number of targets from their rivals across Europe during the transfer window.

Barcelona, in particular, became a thorn in Chelsea’s side.

La Liga heavyweights also spent handsomely this summer, bringing in Raphinha and Jules Kounde, both of whom Chelsea was interested in.

Chelsea had a proposal of roughly £65 million accepted by Leeds United for Raphinha, but the player preferred to join Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Kounde had been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer, but he picked Barcelona. Andreas Christensen also left Chelsea after his contract expired to join Barcelona.

Manchester United may now face the same treatment as Chelsea did on many occasions this summer.

Barcelona could recruit Monaco right-back Vanderson before Manchester United, according to Spanish daily Sport.

Erik ten Hag’s team has been widely connected with a move for the 21-year-old, but the Nou Camp sees Vanderson as the long-term solution to their right-back woes.

It’s also believed that ten Hag wants to improve in that region of the pitch in January.
