Man City’s Riyad Mahrez gives a clear response to Arsenal transfer speculation.
Riyad Mahrez has squashed any reports connecting him with a move to Emirates this summer.
The Manchester City starlet was touted as a possible target for Mikel Arteta as he looks to repair his struggling Gunners team.
The Arsenal manager worked alongside Mahrez during his time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, with the Algerian confirming he was disturbed when he departed.
Mahrez could have joined the Gunners back in 2016, only to see his club at the time, Leicester City block the transfer.
Five years later, it is a very different tale with Mahrez a key ingredient of Guardiola’s all-conquering side.
The 30-year-old scored 14 times in all competitions and has no plan of leaving The Etihad.
Speaking ahead of last month’s Champions League final, Mahrez was questioned about his plans for the future, insisting he hopes to retire as a City player.
“I feel great at Manchester City, and I have no wish to look elsewhere,” he explained.
“I don’t yet know what my situation will be, but I am happy at City – and they are the club where I want to be.

“People have spoken about me ending my career with Marseille, but that is not something I think about.
“I want to finish my career in England, with City. I don’t foresee myself at Marseille.”
And amid transfer speculation, Mahrez has assured his dedication to City, claiming nothing has changed.
Talking to DZ Sport following his nation’s 1-0 victory against Mali, he said:
“There is nothing about my future. I am well in Manchester. I will stay God willing.”
It’s set to be a busy summer for Arteta and technical director Edu, with the former, confirming his team needs ‘changing’ after a frustrating season.
“The squad needs changing.” he said last month. “There were already a lot of changes in December, something that has not been done in years, but it tells us where we were.
“Things are going to have to change and the owners are going to back it up.”
Several players are also assumed to depart the club, with the likes of Joe Willock, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Matteo Guendouzi, and Lucas Torreira all facing unpredictable futures.
However, their window hasn’t got off to the most tranquil start with Emi Buendia and Odsonne Edouard both set to complete moves elsewhere.
It is suggested Arsenal lodged a bid for Buendia, only to see Aston Villa counter, agreeing on a contract with Norwich City.
Edouard meanwhile looks set to join Leicester, he had been linked with a move to north London, but the Foxes look set to win the race and are in advanced talks with the Celtic striker.
