Man City’s defiant message to Raheem Sterling over possible Barcelona move

Manchester City will not allow Raheem Sterling to go on loan to Barcelona.

And, unless they can bring in a replacement, the Premier League champions will refuse to listen to any cash offers for the England forward until the summer.

Xavi, the new manager of Barcelona, wants to bring Sterling to the Nou Camp in the new year.

The cash-strapped Catalan club, however, wants to sign the 26-year-old on loan – and would currently be unable to pay his £300,000-a-week wages due to La Liga financial restrictions.

The Spanish giants are looking to offload several players in January in order to raise funds.

However, City will not weaken Pep Guardiola’s squad by selling unless they themselves enter the market.

City were unable to lure Harry Kane away from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

And, despite reports that they are planning to put the London club’s resolve to keep their captain to the test once more, the situation will only change if Spurs tell City that they now want to do business at the £100 million valuation set by the Blues.

City has no plans to buy or sell during the window at the moment.

For the past year, Sterling has been frustrated by his lack of playing time under Pep Guardiola.

The Sunday Mirror Sport revealed in July that contract talks had stalled because the player had become more concerned about his role in the team as a result of moves to sign Kane and Jack Grealish.

Sterling has appeared in just six games for City this season, two of which have been in the Carabao Cup.

He has only 18 months left on his current contract, and City are willing to risk losing him in the final season of his contract rather than jeopardize their chances of retaining the title and winning the Champions League in 2022.
