Man City Vs Liverpool: Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and full Man City injury list ahead of Liverpool clash

Liverpool and Manchester City have injury worries ahead of their upcoming match in the Premier League this weekend.

Liverpool will play against Man City at the Etihad Stadium after the international break, aiming to reduce the gap between themselves and the top four teams in the league.

With two games in hand, Liverpool are currently trailing behind Tottenham Hotspur by seven points.

However, their preparations for the game are being hampered by concerns over the fitness of players such as Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Thiago Alcantara, and Calvin Ramsay.

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, will face the challenge of dealing with the absence or unavailability of some important players such as Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

Here is a summary of the status of Man City’s injured players prior to their match against Liverpool.

Erling Haaland injury latest

According to Erling Haaland’s father, there is uncertainty regarding his son’s availability for Man City’s upcoming match against Liverpool.

The footballer sustained a groin injury following his hat-trick during City’s 6-0 victory over Burnley in the FA Cup quarter-final last week. Although he was initially included in Norway’s squad, he was subsequently withdrawn from the team.

“Manchester City has a partnership with a hospital in Barcelona so he has been there for further checks and treatment,” Alfie Haaland told Norway’s TV2.

“Now he has been here [Marbella] for a couple of days with the physio from the club. Firstly, I’m not a doctor and secondly, I think it’s ‘touch and go’, yes. You can’t just go two weeks without training and then jump right into a fight. There must be a progression there.

“They can gamble on it, but if he doesn’t get proper training with the team, then he won’t play. It is about how he responds to treatment in the next few days. He needs a lot of care and ‘knuckling’. There are many sprints and there is a lot to move.”

Before he added: “He would very much like to have played these two international matches.

“But he must prioritise his health, try to get his body back in place. Based on the assumptions, he is doing well, but he is very sad.”

Phil Foden fitness latest

On Sunday afternoon, Man City issued a statement confirming that Phil Foden had undergone surgery for appendicitis.

Although they did not specify the duration of his absence, the club confirmed that he would not be able to play against Liverpool in the upcoming match.

“Manchester City can confirm Phil Foden has left the England squad after undergoing surgery in London for acute appendicitis,” the statement read.

“Phil will now return to Manchester to begin rehabilitation.

“He will not be fit for this weekend’s Premier League game at home to Liverpool and it is unclear at this stage how long he will be unavailable for.

The statement concluded by saying: “Everyone at Manchester City wishes Phil a speedy recovery.”
