Man City stance on Bernardo Silva transfer after reports that Barcelona have ‘fee agreed’

Manchester City have denied accepting a bid from Barcelona to sell Bernardo Silva as they fight to keep the popular midfielder.

The La Liga giants want to sign the 28-year-old for a second summer in a row, but their pursuit has raised eyebrows due to deep-rooted financial issues.

Silva told City last year that he wanted to move to Spain because he wanted to be closer to his family in Portugal.

While Pep Guardiola has publicly stated that the Premier League champions will not stand in the way of unsatisfied players leaving the Etihad Stadium, the transfer window is only three weeks old and City would need to find a replacement.

According to reports from Barcelona yesterday, the two clubs had reached an agreement on a fee of £46 million.

Silva, who City do not want to lose this month, is worth more than £80 million in the current market after a stellar season that resulted in a fourth title in five years.

Guardiola benched Silva for Sunday’s 2-0 win over West Ham United, opting for Ilkay Gundogan after adjusting his tactics.

A move to the Nou Camp has seemed unlikely all summer, with Barcelona still having not registered their new signings due to issues with league officials this week.

Club president Joan Laporta is considering selling more of the club’s assets in order to sign players like Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde before the season opener against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Barcelona has also not sold Frenkie De Jong, who is wanted by both Manchester United and Chelsea.
