Man City set to announce two transfers ‘imminently’ as ‘£50m’ price tag slapped on Chelsea target

Manchester City’s 2022/23 squad is taking shape ahead of the start of the new season.

Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez have been confirmed as new recruits, and two more transfers are expected to be announced within the next week.

The only outstanding incoming transfer that appears uncertain is Marc Cucurella, with City potentially having to sell before bringing in the Brighton & Hove Albion left-back.

In terms of departures, Gabriel Jesus’ move to Arsenal appears to be nearing completion, while Raheem Sterling’s future remains uncertain.

However, there is some good news about another Chelsea target in Manchester, who is unlikely to be sold cheaply.

Here’s the most recent City transfer news…

Phillips finalising move

According to the  Daily Mail, Kalvin Phillips will complete his much-anticipated move to City ‘this week.’

The midfielder is expected to join from Leeds United for around £45 million and will have his medical on Friday.

Kalvin Phillips will complete his much-anticipated move to City ‘this week.’

According to the report, Aston Villa and Newcastle United were interested in Phillips, while Leeds turned down a £55 million bid from West Ham United in January.

City’s Ake valuation

According to the Manchester Evening News, City will not let Nathan Ake leave this summer unless he has a replacement lined up.

The defender has been linked with a return to his former club Chelsea, and the Telegraph reports that he is still the’most likely’ target to replace Antonio Rudiger, who has joined Real Madrid.

However, given that Ake has three years left on his current contract at the Etihad, a fee in excess of £50 million would be required to sign him.

Goalkeeper switch

Stefan Ortega, according to The Sun, could join City soon after visiting the club’s training ground this week.

After his contract with Arminia Bielefeld expired on Thursday, the 29-year-old goalkeeper will join the Premier League champions on a free transfer.

The Sun also claims that Ortega’s arrival will see current City goalkeeper Zack Steffen join Middlesbrough on a season-long loan.

The American is said to be interested in joining the Championship club in order to gain more playing time ahead of the World Cup.
