Man City sends warning to Arsenal and Chelsea concerning Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling deals
Manchester City executives have issued a warning to Arsenal and Chelsea over their respective chases of Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling, saying that any sale this summer will be on their own terms, dispelling any rumours of potential bargain transactions.
The arrivals of Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez are anticipated to push Jesus lower down the pecking order in attack, while Sterling might make way.
Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in signing Jesus, while Chelsea is the leader ahead of Barcelona for Sterling, having already had a ‘paltry’ bid rejected.
With the pair’s contracts expiring next summer, City prefers to cash in rather than lose them for free.
But, according to 90min, City would not sell the pair on the cheap, warning any interested parties that they will sell ‘on their own terms’ rather than at a discount.
According to the story, City have extended contracts to both Jesus and Sterling, albeit neither star’s reason is supposed to be financial.
They have yet to reject contract offers made by transfer chiefs, but City will expect that to be the case given the plethora of other clubs interested, who can provide more stability and game time.
Sterling, 28, wants to play in Europe and has discussed a loan transfer to Spain with the Blaugrana at the start of the season.
Real Madrid, Juventus, and Tottenham are all monitoring his position, although Chelsea remain the frontrunners for his signature due to Romelu Lukaku’s upcoming exit.
The England player is expected to leave the club after winning every title but the Champions League, and he might play a significant role at Stamford Bridge back home in London.
Meanwhile, despite a great finish to the season last time out, Jesus is poised to quit the club.
However, City will demand a cost of roughly £55 million for both players, potentially putting Chelsea and Arsenal at odds.
Back in April, Pep Guardiola admitted he didn’t know what Jesus’ future contained.
“I want to tell you something, Gabriel is our player,” the Spaniard said. “I don’t know what is going to happen but he is a Manchester City player. Maybe at the end of the season he says, ‘No I don’t want to sign the contract’, (or) we convince him to stay, maybe he decides, ‘I want more minutes, I want to leave’. Nobody knows.
“What we have done this season we have done with Gabriel, Gabriel is one of the best. But every player is happy here when they play all the time 90 minutes every game.”
