Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Ilkay Gundogan are all creative midfielders who can turn the ball over, but according to Stefano Lanzo of Tuttosport, Manchester City are scouting Juventus’ Nicol Rovella.

The 20-year-old is currently on loan at Monza, where he has excelled in Serie A, so City is among the clubs expressing interest.

It remains to be seen whether the Old Lady will sell Rovella, who possesses obvious great potential.

Since he has not yet played for the Italian national team, City fans will not see him at the World Cup. Rovella has played 17 times for the U21s, scoring three goals and assisting on one, so it may not be long before he is called up.

The Italian joined Juventus from Genoa on a five-year contract in 2021 and has since made three appearances across all competitions. He is expected to remain at Monza until 2023 and has already appeared 11 times for the team.

Rovella has made more tackles (1.7 per game) than Manuel Akanji (1.6) and created more chances (1.4) than Riyad Mahrez (0.8) in Serie A, so he would be an asset to the City squad.

The midfielder cost Juventus €26 million (£22.6 million) last year, and his stock is rising while on loan, so he would command a hefty fee.

Rovella is on City’s radar, regardless of whether they ultimately submit an official bid. The 20-year-old may not be a bad long-term replacement if Ilkay Gundogan leaves at the end of his contract next year.
