Man City legend Vincent Kompany is ‘close to returning to the Premier League after being named favorite for the Burnley managerial job.’
According to reports, Vincent Kompany has emerged as a favourite to take over at Burnley.
Since Sean Dyche was unexpectedly sacked, Under-23s coach Mike Jackson has been acting as temporary manager, aided by centre-back Ben Mee.
However, Burnley chairman Alan Pace is scouting candidates to take over full-time from Dyche as his ten-year reign comes to an end.
Kompany is Pace’s ‘top candidate,’ according to the Manchester Evening News.
However, it is possible that Burnley will avoid relegation on the final day of the season.
Manchester City legend Kompany is approaching the end of his second season as manager of Anderlecht.
He has led the Belgian team to three consecutive third-place finishes and is presently playing in the league play-offs to determine the league champion.
Kompany won four Premier League titles with City and appeared in 265 league games during his 12-year tenure at the Etihad.
Despite Derby’s relegation to League One, Wayne Rooney was considered a frontrunner to take over at Burnley.
Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has also been linked with the Turf Moor position.
Surprisingly, former Burnley midfielder Joey Barton is the favourite to earn the job, according to some bookmakers.
The current manager of League Two team Bristol Rovers played 14 times for the Clarets in 2017.
Since guiding Bristol Rovers to an automatic promotion to League One, Barton’s stock has increased.
And the success could indicate that the former City player is looking forward to another season in charge.
