Man City legend Aguero out for three months minimum following heart arrhythmia
Sergio Aguero, a Manchester City legend, has been ruled out for at least three months due to a heart problem, according to FC Barcelona.
During the summer, Aguero’s ten-year stay at City came to an end. He won the Premier League five times during his time at the club.
In 390 appearances for the English team, the forward scored 260 times.
After his contract with City expired, the 33-year-old joined Barcelona on a free transfer during the summer.
He has appeared five times this season, scoring his first goal for the club in Barcelona’s El Clasico loss to Real Madrid.
Aguero was substituted against Alaves over the weekend due to chest pains. According to BBC Sport, he underwent cardiological tests in hospital after receiving treatment on the field.
Barcelona confirmed via Twitter on Monday that he will be out for at least three months due to a heart issue:
“Aguero has been subjected to a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Dr. Josep Brugada.
“He is unavailable for selection and, during the next three months, the effectiveness of treatment will be evaluated in order to determine his recovery process.”
Speaking before Barca’s Champions League match away to Dynamo Kiev on Tuesday, caretaker coach Sergi Barjuan said:
“I talked to him and he’s calm. He’s confined to his room but, considering the situation, he’s calm.”
Manchester City, for whom Aguero scored a record-breaking 260 goals, sent a message of support and well wishes, as did former teammate Raheem Sterling.
Sterling tweeted on Sunday: ‘Stay strong my brother @aguerosergiokun, we’re all with you. Get well soon.’
