Man City is preparing a £25 million transfer retaliation against Arsenal as Mikel Arteta dealt Kieran Tierney curveball

Manchester City are planning to sign Kieran Tierney before the summer transfer window closes at the beginning of next month.

The Arsenal defender had an injury-plagued season last season and now faces stiff competition for first-team spots with the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

Tierney, whose contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in 2026, played 22 Premier League games for Mikel Arteta’s side last season.

While his impressive performances helped the Gunners finish in the top five, the Scotland international missed the final ten games due to knee surgery.

Pep Guardiola’s side are preparing a move for the Scotsman, according to The Telegraph, as City look to – ironically – replace Zinchenko.

City are said to be interested in Atletico Madrid left-back Renan Lodi as well as Anderlecht utility player Sergio Gomez.

Guardiola was previously thought to be interested in signing Marc Cucurella, but Chelsea stepped in after City stated their intention not to pay the £55 million asking price.

With the summer transfer window set to close in the coming weeks, the Premier League champions are considering their options, one of which is Tierney.

While City consider a move for Scotsman, Tierney appears to have pledged his loyalty to Arteta.

Last year, the £25.4m-rated defender praised Arsenal managerMikel Arteta in an interview with Sky Sports.

“We know what he wants to do, and we’re getting – well, we hope we’re getting better every week and hopefully the results show that,” he said. “It wasn’t going to be something that would just going to happen straight away because it’s a process.

“The manager is a genius. A football genius. You can see we are all loving working under him and me especially, I love it.

“Every day I’m learning, he has shown me a new light onto football. I’m seeing it a different way now and I’m watching other teams and looking at tactics and that’s just because of the way he has made me think about it.”
