Man City informs Chelsea transfer target Raheem Sterling of their stance in letting him depart with Pep wanting to keep him
Manchester City has informed Raheem Sterling that a bid for him would be considered.
The Premier League champions want to keep Chelsea in their sights, but they realise they are fighting a losing battle.
Chelsea are likely to make a £50 million bid for Sterling, 27, who is eager to relocate to London.
City is still hopeful Sterling will accept a new contract, but if the price is good, they will consider accepting the bid.
The England international has a year left on his current contract but is anxious about his playing time at the Etihad next season.
He has the option of leaving as a free agent next year, but he wants to play as much as possible before the World Cup in Qatar.
Todd Boehly, the new owner of Chelsea, is trying to make an immediate impact, and signing Sterling would be a huge coup.

But, unusually, he is insisting on overseeing all negotiations at Stamford Bridge now that previous director and key negotiator Marina Granovskaia has left the club.
Chelsea confirmed Granovskaia’s resignation last week in a statement, saying:”The announcement includes the departure of Marina Granovskaia, director of Chelsea FC.
“Boehly will operate as interim sporting director until the Club names a full-time replacement, continuing the Club’s work towards its targets during the current transfer window.
“Chelsea FC and Ms. Granovskaia have agreed that she will remain available to Boehly and the Club for the duration of the current transfer window, to the extent required to support the transition.”
New Blues chief Boehly said of the Russian: “We thank Marina for her many years of excellent service to the Club and wish her all the best in her future ventures.”
Sterling had a fantastic season for Pep Guardiola’s team, scoring 17 goals and giving nine assists.
Sterling’s contract with City expires in June of next year, and the Premier League champions will be reluctant to lose him for nothing the next year.
