Man City have five players who won’t get medals if they prevail to win the Premier League title today

If Manchester City wins the Premier League, five of their players will be denied a medal.

If Manchester City defeats Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon, they will win the Premier League for the fourth time in five years.

This season, City has been in spectacular form and has once again dominated the Premier League.

They appeared to be racing away with the title at the turn of the year, with a 14-point lead over Liverpool after their victory over Chelsea in January.

But, thanks to a resurgence of form in the second part of the season, the Reds have brought the title fight down to the wire, cutting their deficit to a single point.

City are still heavy favourites to win the Premier League and will be ecstatic if they defeat Villa or if Liverpool falters.

Young stars Cole Palmer, James McAtee, Kayky, Liam Delap, and CJ Egan-Riley, on the other hand, may lose out on a medal since they have yet to play five top-flight games this season.

The Premier League awards 40 medals to the squad that wins the championship. However, their regulations state that outfield players must have played in five games to be eligible for one, whilst goalkeepers only need to have played in one.

McAtee, an attacking midfielder, has made two Premier League substitute appearances this season, while winger Kayky, striker Delap, and defender Egan-Riley all only played once in the league since the season began in August. As a result, they are no longer in contention for a medal.

Palmer, on the other hand, has only appeared in four matches and is therefore likely to be overlooked.

However, if he makes it onto the field this afternoon, he will be awarded a medal if his team wins.

City could have clinched the Premier League title last Saturday if they had defeated West Ham at the London Stadium, but Guardiola’s team was held to a 2-2 draw.

Guardiola, the ex-Barcelona manager, acknowledges his team is preparing for its season-ending game in the same way they always do.

“It’s difficult to control emotions, you know what you’re playing for,” the Spaniard told reporters on Friday. “At the end, we play just a football game. We are not going to do something new. We arrive two to three hours before, we prepare versus Villa as we do always – go to the plan and beat Aston Villa. At the end we can make theories but it’s just a football game.”
