Man City enter pole position to sign ‘one of the finest players in the world’ after Haaland
According to sources, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is now in pole position to recruit ‘one of the best players in the world’ after formally signing Erling Haaland.
Citizens wanted to avenge their Champions League semi-final loss to Real Madrid last week, and it’s safe to say Guardiola’s flawless blues have done just that.
The defeat to the Galacticos was quickly followed by commanding displays against Newcastle United and Wolves, as City secured back-to-back Premier League victories in an all-important title chase with Liverpool.
The Sky Blues’ attacking prowess was on full display in two matches, with the club also making a major statement in between.
City stated on Tuesday that they have reached a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the summer transfer of Haaland, completing the signing of one of Europe’s most sought-after strikers.
Guardiola, according to A Bola (via Sport Witness), is in pole position to capture another talented player.
As per Portuguese sources, City are ‘top of the list’ for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes as they emerge as frontrunners for his signature.
There is also a’smell of farewell’ surrounding the 23-year-old, who appears to be on his way out of the José Alvalade Stadium.
Guardiola is familiar with Nunes, who is still very young and has a lot of promise.
Following City’s 5-0 annihilation of Sporting in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 a few months back, the Spaniard showered praise on Sporting’s gem and showed his appreciation.
The big name tactician even labelled Nunes “one of the best players in the world now,” and while that is a bold statement, we believe Nunes’ statistics accurately reflect his true talent.
A fantastic ball-carrier, the prodigy averages more dribbles per 90 minutes than any other Sporting player and completes the second-most through balls per game, trailing only striker Pablo Sarabia (WhoScored).
Nunes, who is a terror to play against, is also Sporting’s joint-most fouled player per 90 minutes, along with Joao Palhinha.
Indeed, we feel that adding the phenomenon to City’s already-impressive Portuguese contingent would not be a controversial move.
