Man City defender Nathan Ake makes Julian Alvarez admission ahead of Netherlands vs Argentina clash

Man City defender Nathan Ake makes Julian Alvarez admission ahead of Netherlands vs Argentina clash

Nathan Ake, a defender for Manchester City, has praised the “quiet” Julian Alvarez ahead of Friday’s quarterfinal match between the Netherlands and Argentina.

Alvarez was given another starting spot by Lionel Scaloni for Argentina’s round-of-16 encounter against Australia on Saturday, following his outstanding goal against Poland during the group round.

The City star once again repaid his manager’s faith by capitalizing on a mistake by goalkeeper Mat Ryan to score the second goal in the South American team’s 2-1 victory.

The outcome pits Argentina against the Netherlands in an exciting quarterfinal matchup. The two football powerhouses have a plenty of stars at their disposal, with Alvarez and Ake representing City on either side.

The Dutch central defender will be well aware of the threat posed by Alvarez, having observed the 22-year-old in training and at the Etihad Stadium this season.

Ahead of his country’s match against Argentina, Ake provided information on the new City player and heaped admiration on his buddy.

He stated, “As a player he’s very technical, very difficult to mark even in training, very sharp, good finishing, so it will be tough. He’s a great player but also a great guy off the pitch. He’s a little bit quiet.

“He’s still learning English and he comes from a different environment so it’s all new for him but he’s fitted in really well.”

Ake, who started for the Netherlands in their round of 16 victory over the United States by a score of 3-1, complimented national team coach Louis van Gaal for the impact he has had on the squad during their time in Qatar.

“Ever since he [Van Gaal] came in he’s been great for us, he’s very direct and he lets everyone know where he stands,” Ake said.

“If you’re a starter or if you’re a bench player you know exactly what you have to do in the team. I think that makes it very clear for everyone.”
