Man City boss Pep Guardiola fumes about Liverpool and Man Utd advantage after Anfield draw

Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, stated that James Milner should have been sent off during his team’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Sunday afternoon, claiming that the Reds and Manchester United can get away with favorable refereeing decisions when playing at home.

The points were eventually shared at Anfield, and both teams missed out on the chance to enter the international break as Premier League leaders.

Liverpool struggled to get going in the first half, with City leading until the break.

However, the Reds took the lead on the hour mark thanks to Sadio Mane, who finished off a sweeping team move.

Phil Foden held them back before Mohamed Salah restored Liverpool’s lead with a stunning finish.

The hosts appeared to be on course for all three points until Kevin de Bruyne’s late equalizer, with the Belgian’s effort taking a significant deflection on its way past Alisson Becker.

Liverpool were fortunate to finish with all 11 players on the field, with James Milner escaping a second booking after a foul on Foden went unpunished.

After the game, Guardiola slammed the decision, claiming that if the shoe were on the other foot, a Man City player would have been sent off for the same challenge.

“It’s a yellow card. It’s a yellow card. It’s clear,” the Spaniard told Sky Sports.

“It’s Anfield, it’s Old Trafford. In our situation a City player is sent off, 100 per cent.

“It’s too much clear, their interpretation sometimes. It was a second yellow.”

The City manager went on to say that a point against Liverpool, the Premier League’s only unbeaten team this season, was enough for him.

“It is what it is, the result is the result and we cannot change it,” added Guardiola.

“I know how difficult it is against these players and this manager. Every time it is an incredible challenge for us.

“The way we played at Stamford Bridge, in Paris [against Paris Saint-Germain] and today shows we are a great team.

“When we lose the way we play in Paris and draw today it is good. I pray we continue and players come back from their national teams safe.”

The result on Sunday kept City in third place in the Premier League table, two points behind early leaders Chelsea.

Guardiola’s team will look to get back on track against Burnley in their first game back from the international break.
