Man City blocked Arsenal from deadline day transfer and it’s not Joao Cancelo

Arsenal have been associated with a possible transfer move for Barcelona’s talented player, Eric Garcia, as the summer transfer window nears its end.

Due to Jurrien Timber’s ACL injury, Arsenal finds themselves somewhat limited in defensive options, sparking discussions about the potential acquisition of a defender before the window closes. One center-back who has emerged as a potential target is Garcia.

Nevertheless, it now seems that the Spanish international is set to join Girona in La Liga instead, with Manchester City reportedly playing a role in this transfer. According to transfer expert Toni Juanmarti, Manchester City would only permit Joao Cancelo to join Barcelona if Barcelona allowed Garcia to move to Girona on a season-long loan.

Girona shares ownership with Manchester City as part of the City Group, which explains their interest in having the young defender play for their team, known as the Blanquivermells. Despite ongoing rumors about a defender signing for the club, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stated on Friday that no additional signings would be made on deadline day.

“Yeah. There is nobody else coming in. We don’t expect it. That’s what I can say,” said Arteta when asked about the prospect of signing new players. When questioned on responding to the aforementioned injury to Timber’s injury, the Spaniard clarified why he’s said that he is not anticipating any other incomings.

“We’ve done quite a lot and had a bit of uncertainty with some players as well, so we had to be very cautious and find alternatives. Sometimes you want to do everything that is needed but sometimes it’s not possible and we have to adapt.”
