Mikel Arteta has had a brisk start to the transfer window, with Edu bringing four new players to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Gunners have signed Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner, Marquinhos, and Gabriel Jesus, but there is little evidence that the north Londoners’ business will end there.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has confirmed that a number of offers have been tabled for Lucas Paqueta, amid Arsenal’s reported interest in the player, with the midfielder’s future at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais uncertain.

The 24-year-old, whose contract expires in 2025, appeared in 35 Ligue 1 games for the French giants this season, directly contributing to 15 goals.

His impressive performances have piqued the interest of several top-flight clubs, including Arsenal. With increasing interest in the Brazil international, The Chronicle  reports that it could cost up to £58 million to secure Paqueta’s signature.

However, if Edu raises the north Londoners’ interest, Arsenal will face stiff competition from Newcastle United.

However, with Arteta eager to go on a summer shopping spree due to midfield issues, the Gunners are ‘pushing’ hard to sign the Lyon star ahead of Newcastle United, according to French outlet Media Foot.

When asked if he expects another busy transfer window in terms of player recruitment, Arsenal manager  replied: “I am expecting so, yes. I think both competitions [the Champions League and Europa League] require a much larger squad because the amount of games you play is much bigger in both, so I don’t think [which you qualify for] makes a lot of difference or changes a lot.

“If you can financially afford it and we don’t have to do the turnaround in the squad that we’ve had to do, if you ask me what I want it’s 22 outfield players and three goalkeepers. You have to come a long way in the aspects that you see on the pitch, it’s a lot of things that have to be put in place, and that takes time.”

So, taking everything into account, SportsDias has come up with three possible lineups for Arsenal next season.

And it’s fair to say that Arteta has learned a thing or two from Pep Guardiola…

Paqueta could be part of an exciting samba trio on Arsenal’s left flank next season, joining Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus.

The Lyon star prefers to operate on the left side of a midfield three, taking up positions in areas of space.

However, while Paqueta possesses a plethora of attacking skills, he is also a hard worker who can play as both an eight and a ten, which bodes well for Arteta.

However, the Spaniard will need to strike a balance.

Not dissimilar to a 4-3-3, but a formation that could give Paqueta more attacking freedom.

The Brazilian prefers to play closer to goal, but don’t underestimate his ability in the midfield.

A formation that Arteta hasn’t used much, but one that could unleash Arsenal’s full attacking potential against the Europa League and Carabao Cup minnows.

It would be interesting to see the Lyon midfielder in a pivot here alongside Granit Xhaka, allowing Emile Smith Rowe to play, but only time will tell.
