Liverpool’s Last-Minute Signing’s Shirt Number Is Revealed as Transfer Deadline Day Shuts

It has been revealed that Brazil international Arthur Melo has joined Liverpool on a season-long loan from Juventus.

This season, the 26-year-old Brazil international will wear number 29 when he plays for the Reds.

Arthur Melo traveled to Liverpool on Transfer Deadline Day to get a medical examination before relocating from Turin to Anfield.

The midfielder offers valuable depth to a midfield that may be without its captain for the foreseeable future.

Speaking about the transfer the deep-lying midfielder said the following: “We talked a lot, and our ideas and visions were a good fit so I’m sure it was the right choice. I’m really happy and highly motivated to continue living my dream on the pitch and giving my all in a Liverpool shirt.”

The former Barcelona player expressed further enthusiasm for his new team by stating, “It’s a massive club with a great manager, great players. As I said before, it’s a dream to be here.”

What Arthur Melo Brings to Anfield

Arthur made 63 appearances in two seasons for Juventus, but has not played for the Serie A club this season.

The Brazilian has created a name for himself as a deep-lying playmaker who can dictate play from either in front of the defense or in a more conventional midfield.

According to FBref, the midfield master is in the 97th percentile for pass completion per 90 minutes and in the 93rd percentile for passes attempted among his midfield peers, averaging 73 passes per 90 minutes.

He also excels at advancing the ball up the field, averaging more than five upfield throws and upfield carries per 90.

Therefore, Liverpool is acquiring a press-resistant midfielder who can assist in transitioning the ball up the field.

The Brazilian provides Jurgen Klopp with an additional option in an already deadly midfield.
