Liverpool are nearing the completion of a transfer deal for Alexis Mac Allister, a talented player from Brighton. In the process, they have successfully outmaneuvered their arch-rivals Manchester United to secure his signature.

The Argentine midfielder is on the brink of finalizing the move to Anfield, and it is expected that he will undergo a medical examination with Liverpool before completing the necessary formalities.

Mac Allister will be Liverpool’s first signing in what is anticipated to be a busy summer transfer window under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp and the club’s new sporting director, Jorg Schmadkte.

This acquisition not only brings joy to the club’s leadership as it marks the beginning of their rebuilding process, but it also holds the added benefit of preventing Manchester United from acquiring the player, as they had shown interest in him earlier, according to The Athletic.

Erik ten Hag expressed interest in signing the midfielder. However, the player’s strong desire to join Liverpool led ten Hag to seek alternative recruits for his team. This isn’t the first time that Liverpool and Manchester United have found themselves competing for players in the transfer market.

Both clubs were linked with Dutch forward Cody Gakpo, who believed he was headed to Old Trafford last summer. The interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United persisted, with the clubs revisiting their pursuit of Gakpo in January. Gakpo also sought guidance from former Red Devils’ star Ruud van Nistelrooy regarding his future.

“It was difficult this summer. It was a very intense period,” he said. “I tried to find my peace, but it was difficult.

“I thought I was going to Manchester United, but in the end it didn’t work out. Leeds United came in. They are a good club, but I asked myself if I should really go there and when you have a lot of doubts, it is not good.”

Gakpo finally secured a transfer to the Premier League when he signed with Liverpool for a transfer fee of £35 million in January. Subsequently, he has indicated that he was immediately enthusiastic about moving to Anfield.

“I heard about Liverpool’s interest – and I think five days later the deal was done,” he added. “My manager and brother knew about it for a longer time, but I said to them at the World Cup not to tell me anything because I have to focus. As soon as I heard about the interest, the feeling was: ‘Come on, let’s go’.”
