Liverpool suffer injury scare ahead of crucial Champions League tie with Real Madrid
Liverpool is concerned about the fitness of one of their important players before their next Champions League match. Manager Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Darwin Nunez might not be available for the midweek game against Real Madrid due to an injury.
The Uruguayan striker sustained the injury during Liverpool’s win over Newcastle United on Saturday. Klopp is now faced with a decision on whether or not to include Nunez in the squad for the upcoming match.
Nunez initially struggled in the Premier League, but he’s gradually improving and was able to score alongside Cody Gakpo to help Liverpool defeat Newcastle United at Saint James’ Park.
However, Nunez had to leave the game early after injuring his shoulder in the 59th minute and was replaced by Roberto Firmino.
After the match, Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, was asked about Nunez’s condition, but his response was not optimistic about Liverpool’s chances against defending champions Real Madrid in the upcoming Round of 16 match in the Champions League.
“The bad news is that Darwin has something wrong with his shoulder. That’s why I took him off”, Jurgen Klopp said.
“I don’t know at the moment if he will play against Madrid. We need a further evaluation. We only know it hurts, but we hope it’s just that.”
Liverpool fans were delighted with the comeback of Diogo Jota, who had been sidelined for a significant amount of time.
The Portuguese forward made his return to the team by substituting Cody Gakpo in the 59th minute and gave an impressive performance during his cameo appearance at Saint James’ Park ahead of the mid-week’s showdown.
