They claim that Liverpool intends to make an offer to FC Barcelona for Frenkie De Jong worth £53 million (€62 million) plus £7 million (€8.3 million) in variables (a total of approximately £60 million (€71 million).
Manchester United failed to reach an agreement with the player, but they had agreed to a higher fee of €85 million in mid-July – with Liverpool still some way off that figure.
The only significant difference between the two English clubs interested in the player is that the Reds can offer Champions League football.
However, it is now clear that he will not be joining the Manchester club.

De Jong, described by manager Xavi as “a spectacular player with a lot of leadership,” is a world-class midfielder who has struggled at Barcelona since his arrival.
He arrived at a time when the club was in disarray, both financially and on the field, as Lionel Messi left for free to join Paris Saint-Germain last summer.

De Jong is statistically comparable to Nicolo Barella, Luka Modric, and Bernardo Silva, and his passing ability rivals Thiago’s at Liverpool.
