Liverpool strike ‘agreement’ to give Klopp exciting new weapon; wonderkid has double figure goal contributions
According to reports, Liverpool and Fulham have reached a ‘deal in principle’ to recruit Fulham midfielder Fabio Carvalho this summer, and both clubs are eager to avoid a tribunal.
In January, the Reds were on the verge of signing the Portuguese-born attacker.
Fabio Carvalho passed his medical, and an £8 million transfer fee was agreed upon.
The conditions of the agreement would have seen the 19-year-old return to Fulham on loan for the rest of the season.
However, time ran out before the final touches could be made.
Carvalho stayed on Fulham’s books for the remaining six months of his contract.
It also left Liverpool open to the possibility of the transaction being hijacked.
Man United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid have all been linked with taking Carvalho away from Liverpool.
Jurgen Klopp, on the other hand, felt it made no sense for Liverpool to halt their quest at the first indication of difficulties.
It seemed inevitable that they’d rekindle their interest, and according to Football Insider, that’s exactly what they’ve done.
According to the website, Liverpool has’recommenced negotiations.’ They appear to have rapidly reached a ‘deal in principle’ for Carvalho to relocate in the summer.
Personal conditions have also been agreed, and a deal is now said to be ‘in place’ to bring Carvalho to Anfield when his contract with Fulham expires at the end of June.
Given Carvalho’s age, a free agency signing of this nature would ordinarily result in a tribunal deciding how much compensation Fulham is owed.
Indeed, Liverpool’s previous agreements for Harvey Elliott (also from Fulham), Danny Ings, and Dominic Solanke all went to arbitration.
However, according to the article, both Liverpool and Fulham are eager to avoid that process. A tribunal will not be necessary if Fulham are willing to accept a Liverpool sum.
While it is not explicitly mentioned, it is reasonable to presume that the previously negotiated £8 million fee will be utilised.
Fabio Carvalho has played an important role in Fulham’s chances of returning to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
From offensive midfield, he has seven goals and six assists this season in the Championship.
