Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold helping Raheem Sterling in completing his move to Chelsea
According to sources, Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to buy the Cheshire home now owned by Raheem Sterling, who is reported to be close to a big-money move to Chelsea ahead of the 2018 Premier League season.
Sterling is largely expected to depart Manchester City this summer after tumbling down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium in recent seasons, and is said to be a major target for Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea and City are thought to be in advanced talks behind closed doors, with Sterling valued at about £45 million by the defending Premier League champions.
According to The Mirror, the England ace is already preparing for life away from Manchester after agreeing to sell his current residence near the city to Alexander-Arnold.
According to reports, Alexander-Arnold has been in talks to buy Sterling’s home in Cheshire, which is expected to cost the Liverpool defender approximately £4.5 million.
He now resides in south Manchester on the same street as Reds teammate Alisson Becker and departed Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, but is expected to relocate to Sterling’s country estate in the near future.
The situation looks to indicate that Chelsea’s mooted move for Sterling is gathering steam, with the 27-year-old reportedly stepping up his preparations for a fresh challenge in west London ahead of next season.
He is thought to be interested in joining the Blues in order to start on a regular basis having being forced to play a back-up position at City during the previous season.
Sterling is thought to have been lined up by Chelsea to replace Romelu Lukaku in their front three, who recently earned a temporary return to Inter Milan after only one year at Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen whether the former will be a success in west London if the deal is finalised in the coming weeks as he prepares to leave City next season.
Chelsea have struggled for goals in recent months, but Sterling has proven to be a clever operator in that respect during his time in Manchester.
Over the duration of his seven-year contract with City, he has scored 131 times and managed to find the back of the goal 17 times last season.
Chelsea will now try to finalise talks with Sterling and his representatives in order to bring him in as their first signing under new owner Todd Boehly, who is poised to take over the club’s transfer affairs this summer.
Former Blues defender Scott Minto recently urged his former club to be aggressive in their pursuit of Sterling, whom he believes would be the ideal addition to strengthen their offensive lines ahead of the new season.
