Liverpool set to lose eight players this summer as Jurgen Klopp oversees transfer overhaul
This summer is expected to be a very busy one for Liverpool. This dreadful 2022/23 season has demonstrated the need for a significant squad overhaul following its conclusion.
From the highs of last season to the depths of this, it has been a perplexing year for Liverpool supporters. Nonetheless, this season has demonstrated that for many at the club, regardless of whether they have a contract, this is the end of the road.
In order to balance the books and free up space, there will be both an influx and a departure of players. Up to eight Liverpool players could leave before the start of the upcoming season.
SportsDias examines who could leave and why, with some names being more obvious than others.
Rhys Williams
This season, the central defender was on loan at Blackpool, but he was recalled in January after making 17 appearances for The Championship club.
It is probable that he will leave again this summer, and a permanent departure could make sense.
Nat Phillips
A man who has been rumored to be leaving Liverpool forever and a day remains with the club. If a suitable offer is made, it is highly unlikely that Phillips will be at Liverpool at the start of the following season, but if history teaches us anything, you can never say never.
Joel Matip
In 2022/23, the Cameroonian has struggled to match his impressive performances from the previous season for the Reds.
With a year remaining on his contract, he could be sacrificed to revitalize the defense.
Naby Keïta
Without any indication of an extension, he will become a free agent at the end of the season and leave the club.
Due to a multitude of injuries, Keta has hardly played this season, and his time at Anfield is winding down.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Another group that is free to depart. This is not surprising considering how little football he has played for the club in the past year. There is no longer a legitimate role for him in the squad.
James Milner
At this point in his career, the 37-year-old veteran is still physically fit, but he looks every bit his age.
Milner’s contract is expiring, and he will likely be offered an extension if he desires one.
The question is what decision Milner will make at this stage in his career.
Arthur Melo
The Brazilian’s loan has been the epitome of failure, as he has contributed a grand total of one game and thirteen minutes to Liverpool’s season.
He will be returned to Juventus as soon as possible, with the possibility of this becoming permanent having always been remote.
Roberto Firmino
After eight enthralling years with the club, the Brazilian will depart as a bona fide legend.
Firmino’s contract has expired, and he has decided to pursue new opportunities.
