Liverpool present €30m bid for 24-year-old star that is ‘primed’ for Anfield switch.

Reports from Italy assert that the Reds have made a £25.8million bid for Lorenzo Pellegrini after his remarkable showings in Serie A this season.

Jurgen Klopp is looking for a new midfielder ahead of Georginio Wijnaldum’s contract expiry which will see him join PSG after the Ligue 1 side seized a chance to sign him from Barcelona.

On Monday morning, Fabrizio Romano proclaimed: “Wijnaldum has decided to join Paris Saint-Germain.

“Barcelona have NO intention to raise their bid after their agreement ready by 2 weeks and medicals planned. Gini is now set to accept PSG proposal until 2024 with salary more than doubled [compared to Barça bid].”

The Italian journalist also states that Mauricio Pochettino was crucial in bringing Gini to Paris with the former Spurs calling him “many times in the last 56 hours.”

Following the Dutchman’s move to PSG, Liverpool need a new central midfielder and according to a record from the print edition of Corriere dello Sport, the Reds have presented a £25.8million bid to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini from AS Roma.

However, they go on to allege that the Italian 24-year-old wants to remain in Rome which puts questions over the legality of the report because football clubs – least of all Liverpool – simply don’t bid for a player unless they are sure he wants to move.

That said, the Mirror’s David Maddock alleged that Pellegrini is ‘primed’ for a move to Anfield, writing: “Jose Mourinho was appointed Roma manager this week and has already suggested he wants to bring in new midfielders with long-term Liverpool target Lorenzo Pellegrini yet to agree a new deal.”

In all competitions, Pellegrini made 11 goals and 9 assists and would drastically advance the Reds’ capacity to score and create from midfield.

Liverpool don’t precisely have an engine room filled with goalscorers which places considerably too much burden on the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino to score.

Although the recovery of Virgil van Dijk will see the improved menace from set-pieces, it would be reasonable to sign a midfielder that can contribute from range or with late runs into the box.

Funnily enough, Frank Lampard-esque runs from midfield is something Wijnaldum transcends at but he was tasked with a far more passive role except for the one game when he was let off his leash, scoring a famous brace against Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp has the daunting assignment of meeting Liverpool fans’ expectations following a miserable season overall but with Ibrahima Konate’s arrival, the German has already fixed his side massively ahead of the 2021/22 Premier League season
