Liverpool plotting move for superstar from rivals club after player ‘rejects’ seven-year contract

According to a report, Liverpool and other Premier League clubs intend to test Chelsea’s resolve regarding Mason Mount this summer.

Mount’s contract with Chelsea expires in 2024, and discussions regarding an extension for the 24-year-old have stalled.

The England international, who was named Chelsea’s Player of the Season in each of the last two seasons, reportedly turned down a seven-year contract because he was unhappy with the terms.

According to the Evening Standard, “little progress has been made” in ongoing negotiations between Mount and Chelsea.

Mount is one of the lowest-paid senior players at Stamford Bridge, and he desires a salary comparable to that of his England teammates.

According to the report, Chelsea has yet to offer these terms, despite the security that longer contracts have given the club’s eight January signings, who earn approximately £70,000 per week on average.

Liverpool is among the clubs monitoring the situation and could make an offer for Mount if he has not signed a new contract by the summer.

While Chelsea would prefer to retain Mount, they may be compelled to sell him this summer to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.

The Reds could face competition for his signature, as other top Premier League clubs are reportedly prepared to “test Chelsea’s resolve.”

Mount has remained silent about his future as negotiations continue.

Mount was asked before the World Cup in Qatar about the possibility of him leaving Chelsea, the club he has called home for the past 18 years.

“I have always been so focused on my football since I was in the academy,” Mount told the Evening Standard in November.

“I know now there is a lot more media focus on me, but I do not look too much into that. I block it out.”
