Liverpool have received unfortunate news as they approach their upcoming Premier League match against Manchester City. The game, scheduled for Saturday at the Etihad stadium, is significant for both teams in terms of their position in the title race and battle for the top four.

City, who are currently eight points behind the league leaders Arsenal, can reduce the gap to just five points if they win against Liverpool, while Arsenal plays against Leeds later that day.

On the other hand, Liverpool is currently seven points away from securing a Champions League spot, and their upcoming games against Chelsea and Arsenal are crucial.

Unfortunately, Liverpool will have to play without midfielder Thiago Alcantara for the Manchester City match. According to Football Insider , Thiago has not recovered from a hip injury in time for the game.

Thiago suffered a hip flexor injury after Liverpool’s loss to Wolves at Molineux in February. At the time, it was believed that he would be out of action for about four weeks, and Liverpool’s medical team was optimistic that he would return after the international break.

However, he has not resumed training with the first team, which means he is unlikely to play against City.

Diaz in contention to return

On a positive note for Liverpool, Luis Diaz, the winger who has been out of action since October due to a knee injury sustained in a match against Arsenal, has returned to light training. While there is a possibility of him featuring against City, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will not take any risks if there are any concerns about his fitness.

However, Manchester City also has injury concerns of their own, with Erling Haaland’s availability uncertain due to a late fitness test.

The Norwegian Football Federation announced last Monday that Haaland would not participate in their Euro 2024 qualifiers against Spain and Georgia due to discomfort in his groin during their training camp in Marbella.

Haaland was sent for tests in Barcelona and now faces a race against time to be cleared to play against Liverpool. Haaland’s father admitted that it was uncertain if he would be involved in the match.
