Liverpool now enters the race in “Tracking” Arsenal’s Premier League record holder Ethan Nwaneri

Liverpool has joined Manchester United and Manchester City in “tracking” Ethan Nwaneri, according to The Times.

Nwaneri made headlines last weekend by becoming the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League when he entered the game in stoppage time during Arsenal’s victory over Brentford.

At 15 years, 181 days old, Nwaneri beat Sunderland’s Derek Forster by three days to become the youngest player to debut in the Premier League.

While the fifteen-year-old did not make a significant impact in the few minutes he was given, he shows great promise.

The midfielder is versatile but plays as the number 10 position.

As a part of succession planning, Liverpool has demonstrated in recent windows an interest in this younger age group, which is not necessarily indicative of anything.

Nwaneri also surpassed Cesc Fabregas as the youngest player in Arsenal’s history. When he made his debut, the Spaniard was 16 years, five months, and 24 days old.

“He has trained a couple of times with us and I had a feeling yesterday that if the opportunity came I would do it,” Arteta said about putting Nwaneri in the game.

“I think it sends a strong message about who we are as a club. I told him yesterday he would be with us and he had to be ready. He is ready. When he went on I said: ‘Congratulations and enjoy it.’”
