Liverpool News: Alexis Mac Allister Transfer Sealed, Plus Another Reds Deal Confirmed
Things are in motion at Anfield, and the summer transfer window hasn’t even officially begun. Liverpool has already secured the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for an initial fee of £45 million. The 24-year-old Argentine midfielder is expected to play a key role in Jurgen Klopp’s efforts to rebuild the team, particularly in the midfield position where there will be significant changes.
There are also rumors connecting Liverpool to Khephren Thuram from Nice, Manu Kone from Borussia Monchengladbach, and Ryan Gravenberch from Bayern Munich. Klopp’s goal is to guide Liverpool back to the Champions League next season, and he’s off to a promising start.
Here’s a summary of the latest news from Anfield.
Mac Allister’s reason for joining
New Liverpool recruit Alexis Mac Allister has disclosed that his decision to join Anfield was motivated by the opportunity to win additional trophies.
The Argentine midfielder, who was introduced as the club’s initial signing for the summer transfer period, signed a long-term contract with Liverpool, with Brighton receiving a transfer fee of £45m for his services. Upon the confirmation of his move, Mac Allister expressed his desire to accumulate more championship titles, having already secured a World Cup victory with Argentina in the previous year.
As stated on Liverpool’s official website, he remarked: “Since I won the World Cup, I said that I want to win more trophies and I think that this club will help me to do that – that’s the aim and when you are in a big club like this one you have to win trophies. So, that’s what I want.
“Since I arrived here, I can see how big this club is – the players we have, the staff, everyone. I’m really pleased and looking forward to playing for this club.”
Mac Allister’s transfer to Liverpool stands out as one of the first to be finalized in the Premier League during this summer.
It was announced even before the official opening of the British transfer window. The player himself has indicated his eagerness to swiftly finalize the deal in order to integrate fully into the team and meet Jurgen Klopp’s expectations.
He aims to quickly adapt to his new surroundings and fulfill the demands placed upon him by the Liverpool manager.
Sharing more of his thoughts on his move to Anfield, Mac Allister added: “It feels amazing. It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started.
“I wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so it’s good that everything is done. I’m looking forward to meeting my teammates.
“It was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now it’s time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.”
Melwood repurchase confirmed
Liverpool Football Club has officially bought back their former renowned training base, Melwood, and the women’s team will now occupy the facility.
In 2020, the club moved to the £50 million AXA Training Centre, selling Melwood to Torus, an affordable housing trust. The site was then leased to Liverpool legends Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher, who transformed it into a sports and educational facility. According to recent reports, Liverpool has repurchased Melwood for approximately £13 million.
The club intends to utilize the site for their foundation programs and offer education to young individuals through the Fowler Education and Football Academy.
Liverpool stated that they had explored various alternative locations for their women’s team in recent years, but Melwood is deemed the ideal choice.
Andy Hughes, the managing director of Liverpool FC, expressed the club’s intention to provide a top-notch facility that allows their women’s team to maintain their competitive edge at the highest level. This comes after a successful campaign following their promotion to the top-flight league.
Additionally, the club has confirmed that the women’s club crest will be integrated into the official club crest, emphasizing their commitment to inclusivity.
Andy Hughes stated the following: “This is a truly historic moment for Liverpool Football Club and the continued desire of the LFC Women board to elevate and develop our women’s first team and Category 1 Professional Game Academy.
“Now is the right time to make this move and we’re absolutely delighted that we’ve managed to take this opportunity to return to Melwood and to see it start a new chapter of Liverpool’s commitment to our women’s first team and academy.
“We also have an opportunity to further develop the use of the site to support the local community by using it as an additional base for LFC Foundation. We are delighted that FEFA will continue to use the site for its college that provides sport and educational opportunities for young people.
“We would like to thank Robbie Fowler and Jamie Carragher for their work with Torus since we left the site in 2019. We have always taken the views of the local community seriously and we look forward to re-engaging with them in the near future.”
Chris Bowen, managing director at Torus Developments, added: “All our developments are designed to help transform places and inspire growth. We believe Liverpool FC is best-placed to use this location to support the growth of women’s football and to maximise the benefit of the site to the wider community.
“Although we will not be delivering this development, Torus will continue to seek other opportunities to develop affordable homes in Liverpool and to help local communities thrive.”
Klopp’s feelings on Mac Allister move
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight regarding the acquisition of midfielder Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, describing it as “fantastic news.” Mac Allister’s transfer to Liverpool involved an initial fee of £45m, and Klopp has indicated that the versatile 24-year-old will be utilized in various positions within the midfield.
“We are adding a very talented, very smart, very technically skilled boy to our squad and this is super news, really it is,” Klopp told Liverpool’s website.
“I do not think the football world needs me to say too much about Alexis’ qualities because they are already pretty well known but it is clear that he is someone who can play in a number of positions in the midfield and is an all-rounder, I would say. He is calm and composed and someone with proper game intelligence.”
Mac Allister also said he is willing to play wherever he is needed, stating: “I’ve played almost in every position! And I think the managers who worked with me know that I can do it everywhere if they need me.
“As a player, I’m a player who tries to play as simple as possible, I try to help my teammates defensively or attacking. That’s the most important thing and I’m a team player and I will try to bring that to this club.”
Liverpool’s recent signing of 24-year-old Alexis Mac Allister marks the first addition to the squad as manager Jurgen Klopp aims to bolster the team after a disappointing season that resulted in their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
Mac Allister, who was a member of Argentina’s victorious World Cup squad in December, is optimistic about his prospects with Liverpool and is eager to contribute towards winning more trophies with the club.
“It’s a dream come true, it’s amazing to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” he added. Since I won the World Cup, I said that I want to win more trophies and I think that this club will help me to do that – that’s the aim and when you are in a big club like this one you have to win trophies.
“So, that’s what I want. I’m sure this team will give everything to win trophies and make them happy, that’s the most important thing. I hope they stay behind me and behind the team and I know they will do it, so it’s a pleasure to be here at this club and I will do my best every single day.
“I’ve got very good memories at Anfield – but hopefully the ones coming will be even better. I played for Boca Juniors and I feel like Liverpool is that kind of team where the fans are supporting the whole game. I’m really looking forward to playing in front of our fans and showing what we can do.”
