Liverpool informed transfer advantage they have over Real Madrid in Jude Bellingham pursuit

One advantage Liverpool has over Real Madrid in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham has been revealed.

The England international might leave the Bundesliga club next summer, with Liverpool and Real Madrid apparently interested in the 19-year-old.

Liverpool’s midfield has been a source of concern for Jurgen Klopp, since his favourite trio of Fabinho, Thiago, and Jordan Henderson all nearing the end of their careers, with the Brazilian being the youngest at 28.

Injuries to Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Curtis Jones have added to the Reds’ troubles in the centre of the park, and Bellingham has been identified as a long-term solution.

Dortmund apparently value Bellingham at £130 million in order to ward off interest from Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, among others, but former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has told Liverpool that they have an advantage over Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

“You have to remember Real Madrid have [Aurelien] Tchouameni, they have [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Toni] Kroos and [Luka] Modric are still there,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider

“They’ve got a lot of options, Real Madrid. [Federico] Valverde is another one.

“Bellingham is not going to want to go somewhere where he’s not guaranteed to start and I don’t think he’d start in that Real Madrid midfield. He’s probably looking at Liverpool and thinking ‘I’m straight in, I’d play every game’.

“I think he would choose Liverpool. I don’t think Real Madrid would go in for him, they’ve got enough cover in that position. I don’t think they’d spend the big money on him. They might even want him to go to Liverpool and they get him afterwards, after four or five years.”

Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman, though, has expressed doubt that Klopp’s side will pay more than £100 million for the teenager.

“A lot of it will be down to personal preference,” McManaman told

“If he continues his trajectory then he will be good enough for whichever club that gets him. Secondly, It’s dependent on whether he wants to come back to England. He’s a Birmingham boy, so I don’t know whether he’s got a particular fondness for certain clubs or players. He’d fit in any team.

“If it comes down to a bidding war then I think that’s a reason why Liverpool may miss out. We just have to wait and see what his value is next summer. £130 million is ridiculous money for a young player. He’s certainly the type of player that Liverpool would be interested in and most teams for that matter. No doubt there’s been lots of teams who’ve been in conversation with his agent. They’ll already be whittling down the ideal club for Jude.”
