Liverpool have ‘one of the smartest players’ in the Premier League: Gianfranco Zola
Gianfranco Zola has described Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota as “one of the smartest players in the Premier League.”
The Italian legend was speaking during the Reds’ match against Watford at Anfield on Saturday.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool dominated proceedings from the start, taking the lead in the 22nd minute.
Diogo Jota opened the scoring for Liverpool with his 20th goal of the season, a precise header from Joe Gomez’s precision cross.
It was his 14th Premier League goal of the season, as well as his sixth header for Liverpool in the top tier.
In addition, 10 of Jota’s 20 goals in all competitions in 2021-22 have come in Reds games.
That demonstrates how valuable he has become to the team and to Klopp.
It was a true poacher’s goal, and the run off Christian Kabasele’s shoulder was superb.
“He’s one of the cleverest players in the whole of the Premier League,” Zola told BT Sport at half-time, via the Daily Mail.
Jota has been a revelation for Liverpool since signing from Wolves, and he just keeps getting better.
Despite his goal and overall excellent performance, the Reds had a difficult afternoon.
Liverpool had 20 shots on goal but lacked the cutting edge to put the game out of reach of their opponents.
They got their second late in the game when Juraj Kucka gave the hosts a penalty for a challenge on Jota.
Fabinho stepped up and converted his penalty kick decisively to secure all three points.
