Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker discloses Chelsea offer and “horrible” Anfield bow

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker discloses Chelsea offer and “horrible” Anfield bow

Since his 2018 arrival at Liverpool, he has been a revelation. Alisson has suddenly explained why he initially chose Liverpool over Chelsea.

Thursday evening, Tite’s team competed against Serbia. And the Brazil goalkeeper made his World Cup debut in 2022. Before the game, Liverpool’s starting goalkeeper discussed how his “terrible” first impression of Anfield persuaded him to join the Reds.

During the 2017–18 Champions League semifinals, Alisson starred in Liverpool’s first game at their home stadium while still at Roma. Later, he inspired the Reds score five goals, with Mohamed Salah, a former teammate from Roma, delivering a brilliant display. The Brazilian briefly discusses the offer he received from Chelsea.

Despite the defeat, Alisson vividly recalled the game and put it in the back of his mind when Liverpool attempted to recruit him months later.

Alisson said: “If you ask me what it was like to play at Anfield as an opponent I can sum it up for you in one word: horrible. Anfield is a spectacular stadium, when the crowd comes together it is very noisy – and in that game they were on fire. I had a proposal from Chelsea, but experiencing that excited me to play for Liverpool a lot.”

Alisson’s £67 million transfer fee from Liverpool was a world record, but he has more than repaid the cost. And regardless of how much more money Chelsea could have offered him, he has no misgivings about choosing Liverpool as his eventual destination.

Multiple times, the Brazilian goalkeeper has saved the Reds. Additionally, he tends to consistently inspire confidence in his center backs. The Brazilian started off his World Cup campaign with a clean sheet against Serbia in his opening match.
