Liverpool favourite told to take pay cut to stay at Anfield
Sources from Football Insider have reported that Liverpool has informed James Milner to agree to a reduced salary if he wishes to renew his contract with the club.
Milner, who is currently 37 years old, is expected to sign a new extension despite his existing contract expiring this summer.
According to the sources, Jurgen Klopp, the team’s manager, is urging the Liverpool board to offer Milner a fresh one-year contract.

Klopp thinks that Milner’s experience, leadership, and presence in the dressing room are crucial to maintaining a positive atmosphere at Liverpool.
As a result, he wants to keep Milner at Anfield for another year. Milner had his wages reduced to approximately £60,000 per week during his previous contract extension, but he will have to reduce them further if he stays for another year.
Klopp has been very complimentary of Milner this season, referring to him as a “role model” and claiming that Liverpool’s recent achievements wouldn’t have been possible without him.
“He’s a role model,” said Klopp. “I have told him, I can tell the whole world – nothing we have achieved in the last few years would have happened without James Milner, it’s as easy as that.”
Milner joined Liverpool as a free agent in 2015, which was Klopp’s first transfer window with the club.
During his eight-year tenure at Anfield, he played a significant role in the team’s triumphs, including winning the Premier League, Champions League, EFL Cup, and Club World Cup. Milner has made 321 appearances for Liverpool and has contributed 26 goals and 46 assists to the team’s success.
