Liverpool expect to sign ‘special’ defender in potentially record breaking transfer – Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool is reportedly aiming to acquire Josko Gvardiol, a defender from RB Leipzig, in the upcoming summer transfer period, as stated by a prominent football journalist, Fabrizio Romano, who mentioned on his Youtube channel that the team is competing for the Croatian player’s signature.

“Keep an eye also on Josko Gvardiol because many top clubs are monitoring him.

“Chelsea wanted him last summer, also Manchester City and Liverpool are monitoring the player. There’s a lot of interest, but nothing will be decided in February, March – it will take time.”

Josko Gvardiol, who is 21 years old, has been the center of numerous transfer speculations throughout Europe, and his destination for August remains uncertain.

Romano also hinted that any team interested in signing him away from Leipzig will need to spend a significant sum of money. Die Roten Bullen are reportedly seeking a world-record transfer fee for a defender, which could exceed the £80 million paid by Manchester United for Harry Maguire, making it a massive financial commitment for the interested party.

“We know that Leipzig want to make Gvardiol the most expensive centre-back ever,” he said. “This is a crucial point in the story.

“Many clubs are keeping an eye on him. Liverpool have also sent their scouts to follow the player multiple times in the last months. So, keep an eye on this situation.”

Gvardiol displayed his impressive performance for RB Leipzig once again this season by scoring a goal during their Champions League match against Manchester City.

The German team drew 1-1 with Pep Guardiola’s squad, creating an exciting second leg for the last 16 at Etihad Stadium in two weeks.
