Liverpool has been linked with a move for Memphis Depay of Barcelona, which could result in Roberto Firmimo leaving the club.

Throughout the summer transfer window, the Reds were rumoured to be interested in a number of potential new midfielders, but the topic of forwards was relatively quiet after the arrival of Darwin Nunez.

However, Spanish reports indicate that Depay may be on Liverpool’s radar.

According to Spanish news outlet Futbol Total, via  Fanaticos, the Reds are ‘studying’ the possibility of a January swap deal involving Memphis Depay.

According to the report, one Reds player would move in the opposite direction without a transfer fee.

It has been suggested that this player could be Roberto Firmino, with negotiations possibly intensifying as the January transfer window approaches.

According to the report, this is where Depay could come into play, as both clubs are unwilling to lose each player for nothing.

Firmino’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate with clubs outside England beginning in January.

The same holds true for Depay at Barcelona, as his contract at the Nou Camp expires next summer.

According to the report, both clubs are set to lose their respective players for nothing in less than a year, so a swap deal has been proposed.

However, it has been asserted that the “idea exists only on paper” at present, with no concrete discussions taking place.
