Lawyer discloses timeframe for when Man City punishment over alleged financial breaches could be decided

Nick De Marco KC, a lawyer with significant experience in handling Premier League cases, has indicated that a resolution regarding Manchester City’s alleged financial breaches is not likely to come soon. This suggests that the timeline for a decision could be longer than expected and could depend on several factors.

A Premier League investigation has accused Manchester City of more than one hundred financial violations, and a commission appointed by the league’s judicial panel will determine the club’s punishment, if any.

Given the magnitude of the charges, it is not anticipated that the process will be completed quickly.

“Having worked on the Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday financial fair play cases, both of which involved two charges over about two years and took about a year and a half from charges to the end, I would not be surprised if these proceedings took considerably longer given there are apparently 115 charges covering a period of 14 years,” De Marco told The Times.

Manchester City stated that they were “surprised” by the Premier League’s findings and continue to deny any wrongdoing.

The next opponent for Pep Guardiola’s squad is Aston Villa on Sunday at Etihad Stadium.
