Kylian Mbappe to Liverpool? Jurgen Klopp boasts key backer who’ll be crucial to transfer
Kylian Mbappe is poised to become a highly sought-after free agent in the next six months, but Liverpool is determined to prevent that scenario.
The French football sensation is approaching the final six months of his current contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Tensions rose during the summer when Mbappe declined a one-year extension, causing displeasure within the PSG camp.
Despite being initially sidelined in pre-season, he quickly reentered the first-team lineup when the Ligue 1 season commenced. While Mbappe continues to shine in goal-scoring, the uncertainty surrounding his future is becoming a growing concern.
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Real Madrid, once considered Kylian Mbappe’s ‘dream club,’ has decided to abandon their pursuit of the 24-year-old.
This decision comes as Mbappe has shown an unwillingness to push for a move in recent years. With Real Madrid out of the picture, the opportunity has arisen for Liverpool to initiate their own pursuit.
Mbappe will be eligible to engage in negotiations with other clubs starting January, and reports from Spain indicate that Jurgen Klopp’s team is currently leading the race for his signature.
However, the situation may shift if Real Madrid decides to revive their longstanding interest.
Despite this, Liverpool holds a unique advantage that could sway the decision in their favor. This advantage lies in an important ally crucial to determining Kylian Mbappe’s future: his mother.
Fayza Lamari, who serves as both Mbappe’s agent and his mother, has a strong affinity for Liverpool.
In the past, she has engaged in discussions with key figures at Anfield. Mbappe himself disclosed to the Telegraph last year that they had talked a bit, though not extensively.
“We talked a little bit. I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her! It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
Of course, the feeling is mutual, as manager Klopp loves Mbappe. “I can say that I think he’s a really good player but the financial conditions don’t suit us at all,” the Reds boss told Sky Germany in August.
“I wouldn’t like to ruin the story now… but as far as I know, there’s nothing to it. It’s possible that someone else from the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me… that hasn’t happened in the eight years that I’ve been here. That would be the first time.”
If the transfer were to materialize, it would undoubtedly mark the most significant signing during Klopp’s managerial tenure at Liverpool.
Such a move has the potential to propel Liverpool back to a position where they could arguably be considered the best team in the world—a status that aligns with Kylian Mbappe’s aspirations for the ideal footballing environment.
