Kylian Mbappe sends message to Jadon Sancho after Man Utd win Carabao Cup
Kylian Mbappe has expressed his sincere feelings to Jadon Sancho following Manchester United’s triumph over Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday in the Carabao Cup.
Casemiro and Marcus Rashford’s goals helped Erik ten Hag’s team clinch their first major title in six years.
Sancho was introduced in the 83rd minute, playing a part in helping Manchester United secure their second major trophy of his flourishing career.
Despite being considered one of Europe’s most thrilling young players, Sancho has struggled to find his form since his £73 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021.
The 22-year-old took a break from football to concentrate on his mental and physical well-being
Despite being left out of England’s World Cup squad and not playing a Premier League match for almost four months, Jadon Sancho returned to action in early February and was thrilled to help Manchester United end their trophy drought at Wembley on Sunday.
At the end of the match, he was seen laughing and joking with Bruno Fernandes and later posted a picture of himself and Marcus Rashford with the Carabao Cup trophy on Instagram, writing “Carabao Cup winners.”
Sancho received congratulations from his fellow players, including Kylian Mbappe, who commented, “It’s good to see you smiling,” alluding to Sancho’s recent time off to focus on his mental and physical well-being.
Jadon Sancho rose to fame after joining Borussia Dortmund in August 2017, having started his career at Manchester City. He quickly made a name for himself in Germany, scoring 38 goals and providing 51 assists in 104 Bundesliga matches.
In May 2021, he also won the DFB-Pokal, also known as the German Cup. After that, a move to Manchester United seemed inevitable, although it came just days after Sancho missed a penalty in the Euro 2020 final shootout, which England lost to Italy.
Unfortunately, Sancho was one of three players – along with Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka – who faced racial abuse on social media after missing their penalties.
It’s uncertain how much the Euro 2020 disappointment affected Sancho, but he had a challenging first season at Old Trafford and struggled to impress.
During the 2021-2022 season, Jadon Sancho only scored five goals in all competitions while Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League. The appointment of Erik ten Hag as manager last summer initially didn’t improve Sancho’s performance, and as a result, the Dutchman had to take drastic action.
In December, Sancho was left out of United’s squad for their winter training camp in Spain and placed on an individual programme due to his lack of fitness, both physically and mentally.
Since his return to the team, Sancho has scored two goals in three Premier League appearances. He will be hoping that the Carabao Cup victory will give him a boost of confidence for the upcoming games, including the FA Cup tie against West Ham at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
