Kylian Mbappe discloses PSG transfer stance amid Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham links
Kylian Mbappe has revealed that he has never requested to leave Paris Saint-Germain during the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, but after signing a new contract with the French giants, a move appeared to be off the table.
Mbappe appears to have changed his mind just a few months later.
According to Marca, the France international wanted to leave the Parisians during the upcoming transfer window because he felt betrayed by the club after a string of broken promises.
Despite appearing to be on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu, the report claims that he had no interest in joining Los Blancos, leaving the door open for Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotpsur to try their luck.
However, following PSG’s win over Marseille, Mbappe downplayed reports that he is considering leaving the club.
Speaking to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the Frenchman said: “I have never asked for a departure in January. That’s completely false.”
While the Blues have not been directly linked to Mbappe, the club has previously come close to signing him.
He and his family were brought to England ten years ago, where he spent a week with the Chelsea under-12s at Cobham Training Ground.
Tammy Abraham and Jeremie Boga were among those who walked the halls at the time. A deal fell through, and the west Londoners lost sight of a player who would go on to become one of the best in the world.
PSG sporting director Luis Campos also denied claims that Mbappe asked to leave, singing from the same hymn sheet. In an interview with Canal+, he stated: “I am here to clearly deny, he [Mbappé] did not speak to me or to my president about leaving in January. This question never came up and we never talked about it. There are rumours every day, and we can’t talk about them every day.”
Didier Deschamps, the manager of France’s national team, has issued his own cryptic transfer hint, claiming that some reports are inaccurate.
He told RMC Sport: “Kylian is Kylian, by what he does on the field and what he can do outside too. We talk a lot about him. It’s not a negative thing to say, given what he does, it’s logical that we talk about him. Unfortunately, in these times, there are many people who think they have the truth. But it is far from reality.”
