Kylian Mbappe delivers Liverpool transfer stance hint over after PSG U-turn
Kylian Mbappe has quelled rumors of a transfer to Liverpool by reiterating his commitment to Paris Saint-Germain.
The French forward has been linked with a move to Anfield on numerous occasions, particularly during the summer as his contract at Parc des Princes expired. Real Madrid was also interested in signing Mbappe, but he chose to sign a new contract with PSG.
The 23-year-old signed a lucrative three-year contract in the French capital, but that has not quelled rumors that he will leave in the near future as he seeks to add the Champions League to his already-extensive collection of silverware.
Mbappe has asserted, despite this, that he can achieve his goals with his current employers and has no need to look elsewhere. The Frenchman, speaking with Sports Illustrated, stated: “You can stay here [PSG] to have success.
“For us it’s a big message, because when I announced I stay, a lot of things change in the mentality of people. People start to say, ‘Yeah, we don’t need to go out. You don’t need to leave the country.’ ”
In the summer of 2017, Mbappe joined PSG initially on loan from Ligue 1 rivals Monaco. Since then, the forward from Paris has made 236 appearances for the club, winning four Ligue 1 championships, three French Cups, and two League Cups.
He has continued to sing the praises of his current employers and explained why he rejected a summer transfer to Real Madrid.
“I’m not scared. I’m ready,” he continued. “I always talk about my ambition, what I want to do, and now it’s time.
“In Paris, the book is fully white. What an opportunity! You have to think differently. Of course, it was easier to go to Madrid. But I have this ambition. I’m French. I’m a child of Paris, and to win in Paris, it’s something really special—really special. It writes your name in the history of your country for life.”
Despite the fact that a transfer to Liverpool appears unlikely at the moment, Mbappe has confirmed that he held discussions regarding a move to Anfield in the past.
Speaking earlier this year, he said: “We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit. I talked to Liverpool because it’s the favourite club of my mum, my mum loves Liverpool. I don’t know why, you will have to ask her!
“It’s a good club and we met them five years ago. When I was in Monaco I met them. It’s a big club.”
