The 2018 world cup winner has made a Champions League record by becoming the youngest player to score 25 champions league goal, a record that was previously held by Barcelona star Messi.
Messi had managed to hit his record 11 years ago when he was just 22 years and 286 days. Mbappe who shined when PSG beat Barcelona 4-1 in the first leg of the Champions League this season broke Messi’s record by achieving the 25 Champions League goal mark at 22 years and 80 days.
This record is astonishing by the fact that the Ex Monaco star was able to beat the tally held by world heavyweights such as Raul, Benzema and Thierry Henry by a matter of years rather than months.
While Mbappe achieved this astonishing feat, his counterpart Erling Haaland achieved also a record-breaking achievement. Haaland became the fastest player to reach a 20 mark champions league goals after just 14 games.
Haaland record was held by Tottenham striker Harry Kane who hit a tally of 20 goals in 24 games. Former Juventus icon Del Piero hit the 20 goal mark after 26 games. At just 20 years, Haaland is already proofing a class to reckon for years to come.
Haaland and Mpappe are already attracting world attention. They are dubbed as the next generational Cristiano and Messi and are set to put a tough battle for honours in the next coming years.
