Kylian Mbappe breaks his silence over World Cup punishment as he speaks out in Qatar

Kylian Mbappe breaks his silence over World Cup punishment as he speaks out in Qatar

Kylian Mbappe has explained why he did not speak throughout the World Cup prior to agreeing to pay a FIFA-imposed fine.

France advanced to the quarterfinals of the World Cup with a resounding victory over Poland in the Round of 16 on Sunday.

The striker has already scored five goals in three appearances, extending his remarkable performance.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar scored twice to lead France to a 2-1 victory over Denmark in the group stage of the competition.

However, Mbappe was to be punished for neglecting his media responsibilities following those matches. The striker declined to talk to the media in the mixed zone after either group stage game, despite being named Man of the Match.

As a result, he and the French Football Federation (FFF) were scheduled to be penalised, with the striker now agreeing to pay the entire amount.

When he finally broke his media blackout on Sunday, he stated, “I have nothing against journalists, if I didn’t come to talk it’s because I need to fully concentrate on the competition and not waste energy on other things.”  Mbappe affirmed that he will pay the charge in full.

As he is sure to be asked about his future with the club, something he does not wish to discuss, the forward wished to minimize his comments. Not only is it unlikely that the striker will provide meaningful responses, but anything he says could be perceived as a distraction for the French side.

In addition, the striker did not wish to discuss his image rights or any questions connected to alcohol use associated with them, having previously stated that he did not wish to be associated with companies that were tied to player contracts with the football federation.

The striker continued during his post-victory comments: “This World Cup is my obsession, it is the competition of my dreams. I have built my entire season around this competition, I have prepared myself to the fullest both physically and mentally to win it, which is the goal I have set for myself, although it is still far away. The only goal is to win the World Cup, the rest is secondary.”

Mbappe is rumored to be dissatisfied at PSG amid persistent rumors that he could leave the club as early as the January transfer window. However, for the time being, the striker has his whole attention on the World Cup and will not discuss his club status.
