Kyle Walker reveals what he fears about Pep Guardiola ahead of Atletico Madrid Champions League encounter
Kyle Walker, a Manchester City defender, says Pep Guardiola hasn’t forgiven him for his red card in the club’s last Champions League group stage defeat to RB Leipzig.
By the time the Blues traveled for their behind-closed-doors clash with Die Roten Bullen, they had already secured their place in the knockout phase.
Walker received a straight red card for kicking out at Andre Silva and was later suspended for three matches.
His suspension caused him to miss not just the first two legs of their match against Sporting, but also saw him dropped by Guardiola for subsequent domestic games.
A late appeal was denied, and UEFA upheld the three-game suspension, much to Guardiola’s chagrin.
Questioned if Guardiola had pardoned him for the sending-off, Walker told BBC 5Live:
“I don’t think so no, I love him to bits but I don’t think so. It was stupid from me, I know it was a rush of blood and frustration, I don’t know on my levels or expectations of myself.
“As a team I didn’t think we were playing too well, we was getting counter-attacked a lot on that game, they were making big runs through the centre and Kevin de Bruyne.
“I had to stop counter-attacks, when I’m running back all the time and trying to do it, it’s hard.
“It’s much easier running forward easier, although I tend to run backwards a lot quicker than forwards.
“I was frustrated, it was stupid from me and I could’ve cost the team something spectacular, the lads took care of business against Sporting.
“Luckily, I’ve got one more game to serve and I’m back for that.”
